A labor of love, twenty years in.
Gab Carbone and Matt Errico opened the bent spoon in their late twenties in 2004, on a shoestring budget and a whole lot of entrepreneurial spirit. They had degrees in other things (special education, psychology, history) and went to pastry school along the way. They just loved ice cream that much.
At the forefront of the new ice cream wave, Gab and Matt have appeared on countless 'best of' lists, including New York Magazine's best of NYC for their semi-regular pop-up at the New Amsterdam Market, and NJ Monthly's best ice cream 14 years in a row.
They've partnered with Princeton University, NOFA-NJ, Fair Food Philadelphia, Slow Food USA (whose founder Carlo Petrini visited the store), and in 2011, Gab joined Michelle Obama's Chefs Move to Schools Initiative at the White House.

We've had this word on our wall since the beginning. Borrowed from wine: the sense of place, the specific time, the farm that made it possible. New Jersey strawberries in June. Alphonso mangoes when the season allows. Local organic sweet corn when the farm calls. We don't standardize. We pay attention.
With over 725 flavors in rotation, there is always something wonderful to try. When the weather turns cooler, the ice cream flavors match the season, and the bent spoon's infamous hot chocolate and warm-crafted beverages shine.

we don't offer pre-orders on pints but we stock our pint freezer daily from flavors in current rotation. first come, first served. sorry, no savesies! we hand-pack our pints ahead of time from flavors in rotation. there's no daily listing so let serendipity run its course, maybe you'll find your new fav!
we sell ice packs (not dry ice) and recommend bringing a cooler bag to avoid sadness if you're traveling any distance.

since 2004 we've been making just two kinds of cupcakes with real ingredients and all-natural colors as a tiny bonus add-on to the big thing we're known for: ice cream & hot chocolate!
these babies have real butter, free-range eggs, real Madagascar vanilla, fair-trade chocolate. chocolate or yellow cake topped with buttercream in natural colors (white, yellow-orange, or pink) or rich chocolate. that's it.
mini size only, $2.25 each (including tax). no matter how many you get.
each day we also offer our fresh baked cookie selection for walk-in customers: first come, first served.

when the weather turns cooler, the bent spoon's infamous hot chocolate shines. 61% fair-trade chocolate, classic or habanero with local heirloom peppers and cinnamon. vegan coconut version too.
our honey-vanilla bean hand-cut marshies are gelatin-based, made with NJ honey and real, rare vanilla bean. $7 for a four-oz bag.
available in-store and by mail. we ship tins on Wednesdays.

while we don't offer on-site catering, we do offer bulk party tubs of ice cream for your next soirée!
lots of customers use these for weddings, parties, and corporate events. you'll need to pickup, store & scoop (or have your caterer take care of it!).
schedule: we'd send you current flavs on Sunday, order due by end of Tuesday, and then we make it all from scratch for pickup middle/end of the following week. plan a week+ ahead.

we just finished a couple rounds of interviewing and hiring and we're planning to hold our next round in June 2026. we will be looking for very special full and part-time spoonies who are available to work through at least April 2027, longer is better! sorry, we won't be hiring just for the summer this year.
what we're looking for.
we will be looking for candidates with some weekday daytime hours (roughly noon–5ish) but we are always looking for exceptional students and beyond with evening and weekend hours. part-timers and students need to be able to work closing shifts on weeknights and weekends.

Starting spoonies with no experience make $17+/hr (on average including tips). Higher starting for candidates with experience.
